Job Description
Organizes, plans and directs the operations of the community gift shop. Orders, organizes, and maintains shop inventory. Works in conjunction with a resident steering group.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least one year of retail gift shop experience is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequent lifting (up to 30 lbs).
- Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing.
- Long Term Care Environment. Working with people over the age of 65 is required, including those who may be experiencing memory loss.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to read, write and communicate using the English language
- Ability to operate a cash drawer
- The ability to operate software used for sales and inventory.
- The ability to use a computer and telephone for ordering and operating the gift shop.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that enable effective communication with visitors, residents, and family members as well as community team members.
- The ability to work in a team culture using team participation practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Organize, order and sell gift shop merchandise to customers from within the community and to visitors.
- Order, receive and deliver groceries from local grocery stores and other vendors.
- Organize the gift shop merchandise including groceries, rotating inventory as required.
- Dust shelves, displays and merchandise, vacuum or sweep the shop per schedule.
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors in coordination with the Business Office Director.
- Reconciles daily cash receipts and resident charge slips with the Business Office.
- Monitor and record temperature checks of refrigerated and frozen displays and storage per schedule.
- Ensure items for sale are not beyond their sell by or expiration dates.
- Enters daily slaves into the software system for customer billing.
- Participates in required training events and departmental meetings.
- All other duties as assigned.
