What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Pinnacle Search Partners?
Our client in the Coolidge area is a growing, privately-held manufacturing company. We are currently seeking a Cost Accountant who will be responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing and Production costing analysis and inventory for all business locations. The cost accountant is responsible for comparing standard cost to actual cost and identifying and explaining variances by customer, part number, and production jobs. The cost accountant must also work closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances and adjust Bills of Materials.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cost accounting system that ensures accurate costing
- Produce daily production, variance and ad hoc reports
- Collaborate with Operations & Engineering to ensure the accuracy of standard costs and maintain accurate Bill of Materials
- Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services to determine effects on costs
- Study and collect data to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor
- Partner with the management team in the development of annual plant budget
- Review monthly budget performance and related performance measures. Identify issues and offer recommendations for improvement.
- Propose cost reduction opportunities via review of cost of goods sold in addition to shop floor observation
- Partner with Operations to execute a robust cycle count process
- Conduct monthly slow-moving & obsolete Inventory review
Essential Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- Minimum 5-7 years of previous accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Full understanding of accounting systems and procedures
- Good knowledge of Cost Accounting Principles and Procedures related to product costing, bills of materials, manufacturing routings, and inventory control
- Data Analysis – Good systems retrieval and data interpretation skills.
- Budgeting and cost control – Understands budgets, flex budget concept, and cost control theory
- Financial Analysis – Good understanding of all the elements that make up a financial P&L
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proficient with utilizing an ERP system
