Shelter Support Specialist (SSS)
Monday - Friday 4p-midnight
POSITION SUMMARY
The SSS is responsible for providing skills training and other services to diverse client population as outlined in each individual's plan (IP). Duties also include monitoring the acquisition of designated skills. Skills training and other services may include, but are not limited to; socialization, recreation, self-care, communication, physical/nutritional needs, related personal independence opportunities, vocational opportunities and gross and/or fine motor skills.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Works effectively with a diverse population of people who are experiencing severe mental health symptoms, such as psychosis, people who have medical conditions or compromised health or who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Maintain professional, calm, objective judgment in handling disputes between clients, encountering challenging behaviors and deciding steps to be taken to manage the dynamic between people living in an Emergency Shelter.
- Able to manage multiple requests or situations and triage/prioritize those that must be dealt with immediately.
- Build professional rapport with clients, observing objective boundaries at all times while assisting clients in building skills in their recovery, resiliency, and independence.
- Be able to use nonviolent crisis intervention methods to de-escalate verbally and potentially physically escalated clients.
- Be able to utilize knowledge of policy and procedure to maintain safety and cohesion of the
- Emergency Shelter Rooms and the Transitional Living House in their respective separate locations, two buildings on the same campus.
- Perform skill training activities or service provisions in a safe, effective, respectful and healthful manner as outlined in each client's Individual Plan (IP).
- Supervise homeless clients and clients in transitional housing, and assist with life skills.
- Respect the privacy, confidentiality and property of clients.
- Maintains ethical and professional boundaries.
- Keeps and maintains appropriate and required records.
- Understands and follows appropriate policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Assist with program supply monitoring, ordering and stocking.
- Ensure PADS buildings are safe, submitting work orders as necessary.
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required

Other Requirements: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
