Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team and provide support to students with significant physical and/or cognitive disabilities. This individual will work closely with our certified Special Education teacher in our Significant Support Needs (SSN) program to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess a calm and patient demeanor, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
Responsibilities:
- Student Support:
- Provide individualized support to students with significant physical and/or cognitive disabilities in a variety of settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, playground, and community.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility.
- Implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of the Special Education teacher.
- Use assistive technology and adaptive equipment to support student learning and independence.
- Reinforce positive behaviors and provide support during challenging situations.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with the Special Education teacher, General Education teachers, other paraprofessionals, specialists, and other school staff to ensure student success.
- Communicate regularly with the Special Education teacher and General Education teacher regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development activities.
- Classroom Support:
- Assist with classroom management and organization.
- Prepare materials and activities for instruction.
- Support the implementation of a variety of instructional strategies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with students with significant disabilities is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Physical ability to lift and assist students as needed.
