What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Intern position at Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research?
Pioneer Institute is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to support its busy Communications Department. The intern will gain hands-on experience in social media marketing, email campaigns, public relations, podcast production, and website management. This role includes training in e-marketing, crafting social media campaigns, pitching ideas, and nonprofit marketing strategy. This is a paid internship, interns are required to be in our Boston office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in expanding Pioneer’s social media presence through creative content and strategic engagement.
- Contribute to email marketing campaigns, including content creation and scheduling.
- Support public relations efforts, including drafting press releases, pitching stories, and identifying reporters to pitch in new markets.
- Collaborate on website updates and improvements.
- Assist in producing weekly podcasts, including preparation and sitting in on recordings.
- Participate in training sessions on e-marketing and nonprofit communications strategies.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a college junior or senior majoring in communications, political science, marketing, media, or a related field. Applications from all majors are welcome, but the following skills and traits are preferred:
- Experience with Canva for graphic design.
- Experience with social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and Instagram.
- Basic video editing skills preferred but not necessary.
- The ability to write well.
- Basic knowledge of web design (preferred but not required).
- Strong motivation, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to commit to two days per week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) in the office.
