Pioneer Institute is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to support its busy Communications Department. The intern will gain hands-on experience in social media marketing, email campaigns, public relations, podcast production, and website management. This role includes training in e-marketing, crafting social media campaigns, pitching ideas, and nonprofit marketing strategy. This is a paid internship, interns are required to be in our Boston office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.


Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in expanding Pioneer’s social media presence through creative content and strategic engagement. 
  • Contribute to email marketing campaigns, including content creation and scheduling. 
  • Support public relations efforts, including drafting press releases, pitching stories, and identifying reporters to pitch in new markets. 
  • Collaborate on website updates and improvements. 
  • Assist in producing weekly podcasts, including preparation and sitting in on recordings. 
  • Participate in training sessions on e-marketing and nonprofit communications strategies. 

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will be a college junior or senior majoring in communications, political science, marketing, media, or a related field. Applications from all majors are welcome, but the following skills and traits are preferred: 

  • Experience with Canva for graphic design. 
  • Experience with social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and Instagram. 
  • Basic video editing skills preferred but not necessary.  
  • The ability to write well. 
  • Basic knowledge of web design (preferred but not required). 
  • Strong motivation, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Ability to commit to two days per week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) in the office.
