Job Summary:
The PVCA Facilities Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the facility's operations, including maintenance, repairs, cleaning, security, and capital improvements, ensuring the building is safe, functional, and compliant with regulations, while managing budgets, staff, and external contractors to optimize the facility's efficiency and upkeep; essentially acting as one of the primary decision-makers, in collaboration with school administration, for all facility-related matters.
Reports to: Head of School (HoS)
Evaluation: Annual written evaluation conducted by HoS
Criteria: Beyond professional experience and certification requirements, the Director of Facilities will be a mature Christian with a solid commitment to Christian education, a clear support of PVCA’s mission and vision, and a heart of service and humility towards coworkers, students, and families.
Key responsibilities:
Budget Management – Developing and monitoring the facility's operational budget, including expenses for maintenance, repairs, utilities, vehicles, and contracts with vendors.
Staff Supervision – Leading and managing a team of maintenance technicians, custodial staff, and other facility personnel, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance.
Preventative/General Maintenance – Implementing and overseeing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems. Managing the school’s Facilities and IT ticketing system to ensure that maintenance needs of staff are being met.
Capital Projects – Managing large-scale renovation or construction projects, including planning, budgeting, contractor oversight, and project timelines.
Compliance and Safety – Ensuring facility compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
Vendor Management – Negotiating contracts with external vendors for maintenance services, repairs, landscaping, and other facility needs.
Emergency Response – Developing and implementing emergency response plans for situations like power outages, fire drills, and building damage.
Facility Inspections – Regularly inspecting building systems, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs and potential safety hazards. Scheduling and facilitating required inspections (fire alarm, fire extinguishers, etc.)
Energy Management – Monitoring and optimizing energy consumption within the facility to reduce costs and promote sustainability.
Reporting and Analysis – Providing regular updates to senior management on facility operations, budget status, and key performance indicators.
Required skills and qualifications:
Technical Knowledge – Strong understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), maintenance practices, and facility management principles.
Leadership/Relational Skills – Proven experience in managing teams, assigning tasks, and motivating staff to achieve goals. Maintain positive working relationships with staff and faculty.
Project Management Skills – Ability to plan, execute, and monitor complex construction or renovation projects.
Budgeting Expertise – Experience in developing and managing facility budgets.
Problem-Solving Skills – Capability to identify and troubleshoot facility issues, making timely decisions to address problems.
Communication Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with staff, contractors, and senior management.
