What are the responsibilities and job description for the History Teacher position at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School?
PVPA has an opportunity for a full-time High School History Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of high school students. The ideal candidate will be a reflective practitioner who has strong classroom management skills, is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. Our goal is to strengthen the comprehensive math program while supporting and challenging students to develop confidence in math. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:
1. Prepare curricula and instructional materials based on set departmental learning objectives. Classes may include Modern American History, Latin American History, Women’s History and the History of Civil Rights.
2. Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
3. Provide structure in the class by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and adheres to class norms
4. Supervise students during non-class time (ex:lunch) as required.
5. Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
6. Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
7. Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities
8. Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences.
9. Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
10. Participate in school-wide events that occur during the school day
11. Other duties as required.
