Job Description:
PVPA has an opportunity for a full time Long-term Substitute Grade 7 ELA Teacher for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of seventh grade students. Students in this course explore literature and build skills in analytical and creative writing, and critical thinking. Students are assessed through a variety of methods using a standards-based grading system with the goal of supporting and challenging each student. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:
- Teaching five sections of 7th grade ELA and oversee a 7th grade advisory
- Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
- Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials based on set departmental learning objectives.
- Supervise students during non-class time (ex:lunch) as required.
- Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
- Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
- Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty, department and grade level team meetings and school-wide professional development activities.
- Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences
- Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
- Assist with other faculty administrative duties as required
- Participate in school-wide events that occur during the school day
Qualifications;
The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualifications include:
- Two or more years of experience teaching middle school ELA in a public or private school
- Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Subject Matter MTEL exam within 1 year).
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
- Experience with middle school students
- Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
- Interest or experience in the arts
Other Information/Instructions:
Salary Range: $42,420 to $67,372 Annually (Pro-rated for remainder of school year). Potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year per Collectively Bargained Agreement.
2024-2025 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
