Java Developer

Position Description

Pioneering Evolution is seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer to support the development and enhancement of enterprise Java applications for a Department of Defense (DoD) software platform. The Mid-Level Developer will work closely with Senior Developers and Technical Leads, contributing to feature implementation, system integration, and performance optimization. This role requires solid experience in Java development, API design, and adherence to software engineering best practices. This position requires a Secret Clearance and is based in the Panama City, Florida area with on-site requirements as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based applications, working in Linux and containerized environments.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented Java code, leveraging Spring Boot for RESTful API development.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable microservices.
• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, writing complex queries and optimizing performance.
• Troubleshoot application issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features on time and according to specifications.
• Assist in mentoring junior developers and participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  
  

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in software development with a focus on Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and working with microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle).
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized application development.
• Experience with Git and Git-based workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a continuous learning mindset.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. security clearance; therefore, U.S. citizenship is required.
  
  

Desired Experience

• Experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway).
• Exposure to DevOps practices and tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline).
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit or TestNG.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Familiarity with messaging systems like Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
