The Role
Pioneering Intelligence (PI) is a Flagship initiative dedicated to developing AI/ML-powered platforms for transformative applications in life sciences and related fields. We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Scientist to join our team in creating advanced large language model (LLM) systems such as AI agents and agentic workflows to accelerate our scientific innovation and contribute to the creation of new technologies and platforms.
As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and researchers to address complex challenges in tasks such as scientific reasoning and planning. Your work will focus on developing new prototypes and evaluating them for their application potential. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in LLMs to meaningful scientific problems, in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced LLM-based agents and workflows aimed at accelerating scientific innovation across multiple application domains
- Explore new LLM customization and reasoning strategies
- Benchmark and evaluate prototypes; work may include design of custom benchmarks for different application tasks or domains
- Work with our ML Engineers to scale promising prototypes
- Supervise development of production-quality pipelines for user testing and feedback
- PhD in a relevant field such as machine learning, computer science, math, statistics, physics etc.
- Significant experience demonstrated in design and implementation of LLM-based workflows that integrate tools such as vector or graph databases in development environments
- Experience with version control software (e.g. Git) and AWS cloud computing
- Fluency in Python and standard ML tools and packages
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Team-oriented and collaborative
- 1 year industry experience.
- Experience and knowledge in at least one non-computational domain such as chemistry, biology, materials, etc.
- Experience designing LLM workflow with tools like LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.
- Experience fine-tuning or distilling LLMs
- Experience with modern frameworks for deep learning and machine learning, e.g. PyTorch, JAX, SageMaker, etc.
- Experience with modern software development and cloud services, e.g. Git, Docker, AWS Batch, Step Functions, EKS, etc.
