Essential Functions
- Provide direct medical care to patients under the direction of a physician.
- Responsible for general exam room maintenance, stocking supplies, filing, maintaining records, and other general clinic duties.
- Assess, plan, delegate, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Obtain patient history, vital signs, and reason for visit.
- Recognize and evaluate changes in patient status and initiate action when appropriate.
- Obtain appropriate information, specimens, lab results, and x-rays from patients and prepare them for the clinical provider.
- Assist providers with procedures, such as minor surgical procedure, and prepare the exam room with necessary supplies for procedures.
- Perform procedures within Medical Assistant scope of practice. For example, tympanography, administration of medications, venipuncture, vision screening, and dressage changes.
- Provide and document patient education including rationale for medication administration, medication side effects, explanations of medications and procedures, prescription usage and directions, and test results.
- Perform instrument cleaning and prepare for sterilization.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment.
- Recognize and address patient and family learning needs. Ensure patient education/planning by patient needs.
- Access resources for referrals as needed and set up referral appointments as needed.
- Document all treatments, procedures, education, and medication administration according to clinical charting guidelines.
- Conduct eye exams using the Snellen Eye Chart.
- Draw blood and remove sutures as directed by physician.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant required.
- Current, unencumbered Colorado license required.
- Current BLS certification within three (3) months of transfer or hire required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
