Description
Assisting obstetricians and midwives during delivery. Providing care for women in labor through pain management , coaching and ongoing fetal monitoring. Assessing and monitoring newborn health after delivery, including measuring vital signs and performing routine assessments.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Labor Nurse
- Does initial and continuous assessment.
- Obtains prenatal records.
- Interprets and reads the fetal monitor.
- Monitors contractions
- Assess patient and fetal VS
- Administered medication.
- Identify complications during labor and delivery
- Communicates the mom’s condition and needs to the Physician
- Coaches mom during labor and delivery
- Cares for the mom and infant throughout labor, birth, and immediate postpartum phase.
- Provides emotional support
- Circulate C-Section and recover them
- Checks patient's cervix periodically to monitor progression /lack of dilation.
- Cares for patient on Pitocin, MgSO4 and continues lumbar epidural.
- Recovers vaginal delivery
Couplet Care Nurse
- Assumes responsibility for both mother and baby
- Monitors VS of mom and baby
- Performs routine tests for baby
- Assess for any signs or symptoms that indicate complications of childbirth
- Communicate with physician and pediatrician regarding mom and baby
- Take care of postpartum readmission, post operative GYN
- Recovers C-Section or vaginal delivery patients
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must have current RN licensure in the State of California.
- Current AHA BLS required upon hire. ACLS, NRP and PALS certification as required by Department.
Qualifications:
Education Required: Associates degree in nursing required, BSN preferred.
Experience Preferred :1 year: Labor & Delivery, OB, Couplet Care Experience, strongly preferred
