Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. Work side by side with James Beard Nominated Chef Mayumi Hattori who directs a hardworking, passionate, and driven kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the food industry, a passion for local ingredients, and a drive to help us change the food system locally here on Nantucket. We use the best ingredients from as close by as possible. We are a breakfast and lunch café that does a significant amount of prepared foods and is looking to further grow our off-site dinners and events programs.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes using ingredients from within 350 miles.
- Ensure all food is prepared in compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Assist in menu planning, taking into consideration seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including proper food handling and storage practices.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives and other cooking tools.
- Learn recipes and costing to help provide a sustainable menu for service.
- Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and ingredients, placing orders as necessary.
- Participate in catering events as required, adapting menus to suit specific occasions.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar role within the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practices for food handling.
- Ability to effectively plan menus that cater to diverse tastes and dietary restrictions.
- Proficiency with kitchen equipment, including knives and cooking appliances.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure during busy service periods.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- A passion for cooking and a commitment to delivering high-quality meals.
