Piper Maddox has been engaged by an exciting client in the clean chemicals space, on a crucial chemical engineering hire.
The Chemical Engineer will play a key role at the company’s main production facility, supporting and ultimately leading process scale-ups, technology transfers, and capital projects that bring new sustainable chemical products to market. Reporting to their Director of Chemical Engineering, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiencies, optimize processes, and implement best practices that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and refine chemical processes to improve operational efficiency, yield, and sustainability.
- Apply knowledge of heat exchange principles, process control systems, and fluid/solid handling techniques to optimize production lines.
- Lead and support capital projects, including new product introductions, equipment installations, and facility expansions.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring successful on-time and on-budget completion.
- Work with various systems—such as chillers, hot oil heaters, vapor/liquid scrubbers, bulk powder handling equipment, and water treatment units—to ensure they meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
- Collaborate with automation engineers to enhance process control systems, including PLC software/hardware and instrumentation.
- Refine ladder logic, control charting, and response protocols for consistent product quality and stable operations.
- Partner with R&D, operations, procurement, and other internal teams to troubleshoot process challenges, align on product development goals, and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in chemical process engineering within a manufacturing environment (preferably in-house rather than consulting).
- Hands-on expertise in Heat exchange principles, Process control systems (PLC instrumentation, control charts, ladder logic), Heating and cooling systems (e.g., glycol/water chillers, hot oil heaters), Vapor/liquid scrubbers for gas removal, Bulk powder handling (supersacks, hoppers, augers), Acid/base dosing and pH adjustment, DI/RO water treatment systems, Mixing, blending, and packaging operations.
- Capital project management exposure

- Strong performance history in high-growth, medium-sized company settings.

- Solid foundation in statistical analysis or data-driven process improvement.
