What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activities Coordinator position at PIPER SHORES?
The Activities Coordinator is a key member of the Life Enrichment team and serves to implement fun and enriching programs and activities for Independent Living residents in the community. This role is responsible for logistics, scheduling, event set up and break down, and for contributing creative ideas for future events and activities. Examples of events include hosting on-site concerts/entertainment, lectures, art shows, enrichment programs and many more. Off-site events may include trips to the Merril Auditorium for concerts, bird-watching tours, trips to the Portland Museum of Art, and other seasonal events and activities geared toward older adults.
Piper Shores is Maine's first and only nonprofit Continuing Care Retirement Community and we are proud to offer a creative, inclusive, and fun work environment on a beautiful oceanfront campus in Scarborough. This position is primarily days, with the flexibility to staff occasional weekend and evening events.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Along with other members of the Life Enrichment team, researches and plans activities and trips, including informing residents of activity and events details.
- Responsible for the programming and maintenance of Piper Shores’ in-house community TV channel, Apps program, and digital signage.
- Provides set-up and staffing of in-house and outside activities for Piper Shores’ residents.
- Assists in the operation of technology/AV systems around the campus.
- Assists with the operation of the Arts Center, including planning and executing a yearly schedule of exhibits, resident or outside guest programs, organization of the studios, and ordering supplies for exhibits and classes.
- Assists with booking resident meeting rooms and lounges.
- Records resident billing for in-house programming and special trips in preparation for submission to Accounting for billing.
- May assist with transportation for independent living residents to medical appointments, shopping, social, educational, recreational, and religious services, and assists in driving if regular Drivers are unavailable (limited job function)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Solid knowledge of MS Office, along with ability/desire to learn desktop publishing software programs, i.e., Adobe InDesign, Adobe Express.
- Ability to research details for in-house programming and special trips.
- Solid knowledge or ability to learn a variety of audio/visual equipment for in-house programs.
- Valid driver’s license in the State of Maine and good driving record.
- Ability to work with a minimum of direction once job duties are mastered.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Creativity.
- Strong desire and ability to work with the senior population. Ability to communicate in a courteous, friendly and helpful manner.
