GENERAL SUMMARY:
Recreation Professionals work collaborative with Recreation team members to develop and implement engaging and therapeutic recreational programs tailored to the unique needs and preferences of residents. The Recreation Team ensures that residents participate in meaningful and enjoyable activities that promote social interaction, physical activity, creativity, and emotional well-being.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Maintains the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
- Develops rapport by engaging in conversations and learning about their interests, history and preferences.
- Supports the planning and facilitation of a variety of meaningful activities, including current events discussions, sensory stimulation, cultural experiences, religious services, entertainment, outings, and one-on-one visits, always considering the unique desires of each resident.
- Actively engage with residents during activities, encouraging participation and offering assistance when needed.
- Works as part of the team to ensure activities are available every day, participating in a rotating weekend schedule to provide consistent support and engagement for residents.
- Escorts residents to and from activities, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported throughout their participation.
- Assists with transportation for outings, ensuring residents' safe and enjoyable travel experiences. Accurately records vehicle mileage and resident attendance to maintain smooth operations for scheduled activities.
- Assists with programming, digital signage, and maintenance of Piper Shores’ Holbrook Building (Health Center & Assisted Living) Touch-town program located in the Lobby of the Health Center and Assisted Living.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in working with elderly populations, especially those in retirement communities, assisted living, or long-term care settings, is preferred.
- Prior experience in facilitating recreational or leisure activities is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with and engage residents of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- PC skills sufficient to assist with administrative tasks
- Must be available to work a flexible/rotating schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.
- Creative and enthusiastic approach to activity planning.
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with older adults.
