What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sous Chef position at PIPER SHORES?
We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of meal preparation and staff supervision at our Independent Living Oceanside Campus. The Sous Chef serves as a team leader and also works alongside line and prep cooks during meal preparation and execution, ensuring an exceptional experience for residents and guests.
The work: Serves in three main functional areas: Food Preparation, Administration, and Leadership within the department. This position has a typical schedule of Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 11a-8p and Saturday and Sunday 7a-3p and may provide occasional, though infrequent, coverage for callouts or PTO, as flexibility is needed as a 365-day operation. This individual provides direct supervision to culinary staff at the Oceanside Main Dining kitchen, maintains high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, and demonstrates creativity with menu planning, special events, and line preparation.
Experience and skills we’re looking for: At least 3 years of culinary experience with 1 year of leadership and supervision. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, knowledge of kitchen operations, and a respectful approach to leadership and management. Strong culinary skills and an ability to transfer skills and knowledge to others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Moderate to heavy physical effort. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently. May be exposed to very high and low temperatures from ovens, freezers, and refrigerators. Must be able to walk and stand up to 85% of the day. Must be able to stoop, reach, and bend frequently. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors; may need to operate the following equipment with or without reasonable accommodation: Robot Coupe, Tilt Skillet, Convection Oven, Soup Kettle, Heavy Duty Floor Mixer, Microwave Oven, Salamander Broiler, Steamer, and various carving and kitchen knives. Will be exposed to pets, pet dander, flowers, and plants in both buildings and throughout campus.
