Ahoy! We are seeking energetic and outgoing individuals to join our crew at Pirate Adventures of Cortez. We are a small, family-run boat business. At Pirate Adventures we provide interactive adventures for kids and families on our pirate ship, the Sea Gypsy IV. As a crew member you will lead children through treasure hunts aboard the ship, or act as a bad pirate aboard a smaller vessel (that will engage in a water cannon battle with the pirate ship).

Safety is #1 here! Strong communication skills are also important. We do not require that you have any prior experience, but just a willingness to learn! We encourage anyone who enjoys working with kids or working on the water to apply!

• This is NOT for a captain position
• This is NOT a reenactment, so time-period/privateer clothing isn’t used. To remain kid-friendly and comfortable outdoors, Pirate Adventures UPF shirts and harem-style pants are worn in this position
• Certain restrictions to this job apply if you are under 18 years old
• $16/hr cash tips

Pirate Requirements:

• High energy, positive, and friendly personality
• Enjoys the outdoors, working with kids, or hopefully a combination of both
• Can communicate with captain, crew, and customers effectively
• Ability to withstand working outdoors (Florida can be hot and sunny!)
• Ability to engage and interact with children 3-10 years old during 75 minute cruises
• Can speak and project loudly in front of large crowds
• Willing to learn basic boating skills (in relation to our operations)
• Is okay with getting wet with saltwater
• Can encourage a safe, clean, and FUN environment
• Willing to work flexible hours, subject to demand, weather, and captain’s requirements
• *MUST*:
• Be at least 16 years old (some job/duty restrictions will apply though for anyone under 18)
• Pass a pre-employment drug test and be enrolled in a random drug testing program federally mandated by the US Coast Guard
• Pass a background check
• Sign a liability waiver

Pirate Duties:

• Prepare ship, dinghy, and check-in area for the day
• Greet customers and assist with check-in procedure
• Maintain a welcoming presence to customers and answer any questions
• Keep children engaged and active during intro and trip
• Assist captain in docking and undocking procedures
• Maintain constant communication with captain during cruises
• Help provide a safe environment at all times
• Provide an enthusiastic and active battle while being hit with water cannons
• Clean/sanitize and breakdown ship following trips and at the end of the day
