Under limited supervision, instructs students in various paralegal classes and labs and performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties. Interacts with and assists students in various other related areas. Reports to the Program Lead of this Department.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Teaches various assigned courses and practical labs in legal science by lecture and/or demonstration as appropriate. Performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties such as evaluating textbooks and other instructional materials; preparing learning objectives, lesson plans, course syllabi, handouts, tests, etc.; gathering and developing resources for classes; preparing lab assignments; procuring supplies and equipment; maintaining lab materials and equipment; conducting critiques of students' work; grading assignments; maintaining files; development and delivery of new courses in traditional, on-line, and combined formats. Prepares and/or completes various reports and forms related to classes including 10% reports, end-of-quarter reports, grade reports, rolls, etc. Performs various student-related duties including recruiting students, advising students, assisting students with class registration, counseling with students, assisting students with career and study skills, writing letters of recommendation, assisting with co-op placements, assisting with graduation activities, etc. Completes various student forms such as withdrawals, registration, drop/add, and credit by examination. Remains active in professional organizations and activities. Keeps abreast of and implements into curriculum newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of paralegal courses and the expanding role of paralegals in the workforce, including electronic filing systems, case and firm management software, e-discovery, basic and law-specific artificial intelligence (AI) programs and platforms (i.e., GPT, Westlaw Precision, Co-Counsel).Incorporates the latest research and technological advancements to adapt paralegal courses into online formats, enhancing accessibility and expanding learning opportunities for students.Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Paralegal Department and Public Services and Fines Arts Division and with all departments and divisions on campus. Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance reports, grade sheets, evaluation forms, professional development forms, memos, general letters of correspondence, etc.Operates, utilizes, and maintains various types of equipment and supplies including computers, calculators, audio-visual equipment, electronic whiteboard, and general office and teaching supplies, etc. Familiar with and able to instruct students in the use of various office and legal software.Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required. Assists part-time instructors and substitutes for absent instructors as needed. Assists with preparing departmental objectives, developing, and updating curriculum, participating in program review activities, etc. Assists in ABA re-approval process, interim reports preparation and visitation. Assists in promotion and marketing of Paralegal Program in community. Service on Advisory Board.Responds to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.Performs other duties as required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and other equipment including computer, copier, audio-visual equipment, crime scene investigative equipment, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are over sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, etc. for long periods. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately twenty pounds.Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (like or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the giving of instructions to students. Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, and various books such as various manuals, PCC handbook and catalog, various texts, PCC FACT book, etc. Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance report, end-of quarter reports, long-range plans, etc., using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, subordinates, other PCC personnel, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence. Requires the ability to be conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, and discussion and debate.Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Must be able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to apply rational systems such as education (teaching), counseling, etc., to solve problems and deal with various concrete variables.Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; determine percentages; utilize decimals; determine time and weight; and utilize descriptive statistics.Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office, audio-visual, and investigative equipment.Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
