JOB
Under general supervision, performs unskilled and limited semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, grounds and facilities. Work involves the maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, and performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks requiring a knowledge of building trade skills. Work involves performing work in one or more building trades, such as: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and/or installation of heating and air conditioning equipment. Employee also performs grounds maintenance and custodial work. Employee must maintain a readiness to be called back in times of emergency. Reports to the Buildings & Grounds Superintendent.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs general carpentry and renovation work in the construction, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, drywall, partitions, doors, windows and screens; builds or repairs partitions, cabinets, tables, shelves, and bookcases; installs tile and carpet.Assists the replacement of faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other minor electrical work; assists in major electrical projects.Assists maintenance work on heating and air conditioning systems, checking thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, motors, etc.; assists in major heating and air conditioning repair projects.Performs minor plumbing tasks including changing faucet washers, stems, seals, etc.; assists in installing water and sanitary fixtures and equipment, and repairing toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, guide wires, etc.Sands, paints or stains walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables and other wooden articles.Performs minor maintenance on power equipment and hand tools, including sharpening blades, cleaning filters, adding grease, oil and gas, etc.Mows and trims grass with power mowers and string trimmers; prunes shrubbery; rakes leaves; edges curbs and walkways.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSPerforms custodial work, including sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floor surfaces; organizing equipment; replacing light bulbs, etc.Performs other related work as required.
