AVID Elective Teacher Job Description
Purpose: The AVID elective teacher is a skilled educator grounded in relationships. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an academic acceleration program that aims to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year colleges. The AVID elective curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, note taking, and study skills. Because AVID elective students also enroll in at least one rigorous course including honors or AP, the AVID elective teacher is responsible for supporting students’ academic success across content areas.
Roles and Responsibilities of the AVID Elective Teacher:
Sets high expectations for student achievement and monitors students' progress
Well respected instructional leader
Promotes the use of WICOR strategies by all AVID students and in all classes.
Assists in the training of tutors using the AVID tutorial training materials
Advocates for AVID students, especially with challenges of access and equity in advanced courses
Assists the AVID site team with certification and data collection and gathers artifacts to verify levels of performance for the Coaching and Certification Instrument (CCI).
Is an active member of the AVID Site Team in promoting school wide use of WICOR strategies.
Advocates and supports professional learning regarding AVID methodologies for other staff members.
