Summary:
Under the general direction of a principal, provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. Provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, develops, selects or modifies lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met, and maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of NCDPI and PCS. Provides quality standards-based instruction in the area of Health Sciences Education; assesses and encourages student progress, manages an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement.
Essential Duties
Plan, organize, and teach a competency-based CTE program using the health science curriculum.
Provides the bridge needed by all students to deal with major societal issues such as work-and-family, health care, child and elder care, family and community violence and crime, global economics and politics, and technology usage.
Demonstrate effective classroom and computer lab management
Assist in coordination of CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
Participates in field trips to post-secondary institutes, worksites, businesses and hands-on workshops
Assist in development of and participate in activities designed to promote an innovative business and technology program
Develop community and industry partnerships for students
Students develop personal effectiveness and industry-relevant technical skills as they explore and pursue career pathways aligned to the Health Science Education program.

Health Science: RN
Required Degree Level: Bachelor’s, Associate, or Diploma (3-Year program)
Required Years of Work Experience for the CTE Restricted route: 2 Years
Examples of Related Degrees: Nursing
Examples of Related Work Experience: active clinical nurse in long term care, Assisted living, home care, hospital, physician’s office, Public health dept., Outpatient
Notes: Must hold unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse and completed a course in teaching adults OR experience teaching adults, or experience in supervising nurse aides
Health Science: Non- RN
Required Degree Level: Bachelor’s, Associate, or Diploma Program (* diploma program only applies to related degrees in next column with asterisk)
Required Years of Work Experience for the CTE Restricted route: 2 Years with Bachelors, 2 years with Associates, & 4 years with Diploma Program
Examples of Related Degrees: Physical Therapy, Medical technology clinical laboratory, Dietetics/Nutrition, Nuclear medicine, Athletic training, Nurse*, Medical technician*, Paramedic, Dentist, Dental hygiene, etc.
Examples of Related Work Experience: Health educator at health dept., schools, etc., Respiratory therapist, Radiology technologist, Exercise physiologist, Practical nurse, Medical Assistant, previous teaching experience in this content area
Notes: There are credentials that must be held prior to teaching with an above degree.
Health Science- Biotechnology
Required Degree Level: Bachelor’s, Associate
Required Years of Work Experience for the CTE Restricted route: 2 Years
Examples of Related Degrees: Biotechnology, Biomedical engineering, Biology- related degrees, Chemistry, Pharmacology if at least 6 semester hrs in Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Cell biology, etc.
Examples of Related Work Experience: Biotechnology, biomedical informatics, quality assurance technician, clinical trials research associate, crime scene investigator, genetic counselor, science teacher previous teaching experience in this content area
