Pittsburg Community Schools seeks a High School Activites Director for the 25/26 Calendar Year:
Purpose: The Activities Director will serve as a member of the administrative team at Pittsburg High School. He/she will lead the athletics and activities by emphasizing an inclusive experience for all students in school activities. He/she will lead the establishment of a strategic direction for student activities with high expectations for excellence in all high school activities and programs.
Reports to: High School Principal
Pay Rate: Compensation based upon education and experience
Term of Employment: 11 month position
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- Kansas licensure in building administration preferred.
Experience:
- Experience in educational settings preferred.
- Experience in working with people.
- Experience as a teacher and coach.
- Experience organizing activities and events.
- Experience as a high school athletic/activities director is preferred.

Functions and Responsibilities:
Universal USD 250 Licensed Personnel Standards:
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD 250 and the value of education.

- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
Specific Functions and Responsibilities:
- Work to ensure the positive promotion of the activities at PHS.
- Knowledge of the KSHSAA Handbook and procedures.
- Ensure that all district activities meet all KSHSAA requirements. (Safety protocols, student physicals, eligibility requirements, rules meetings, post-season entry forms, transfer forms, hardship forms, cooperative agreements, required coaching trainings, and Rule 10 forms.)
- Attendance at the following events: games, tournaments, banquets, booster meetings, benefits, and professional development seminars.
- Coordinates school activities both in school and outside of school.
- Hire, recruit, and develop high-quality and high-character coaches and sponsors.
- Work with head coaches and lead sponsors as a mentor both inside and outside of their season.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain best coaching practices for all activities.
- Completes annual evaluations of head coaches on an annual basis, including the following:
- The perspective on the completed season.
- The perspective on the next season.
- Identify areas of support needed for success.
- Develop a comprehensive improvement plan for activities at Pittsburg High School.
- Develop a 5-year facility improvement plan to be submitted to Chief Operations Officer and BoE.
- Implement an atmosphere of unity, purpose, and communication among the coaches and sponsors at the high school, middle school and youth programs to ensure continuity of expectations for all students.
- Contribute and maintain the handbooks for each activity and ensure consistency.
- Manage and oversee all necessary administration and ensure that relevant written policies and codes of practice are kept up-to-date and that staff are properly trained and informed about these policies and practices.
- Effectively manage the activities budget. This includes funding from the General Fund, Group Fundraisers, and Booster Clubs.
- Coordinate the awarding of athletic letters, working with the administration, coaches, and sponsors.
- Scheduling of all PHS athletic events, including the following aspects: contracts for games (meets, matches, etc.), confirmation with officials, opponents, transportation, meals (if required), extra duty workers, athletic trainer, hospitality rooms for tournaments, and EMS service or home varsity and JV football games.
- Purchasing and payments for the following areas: equipment, Athletic officials, meals, entry fees, KSHSAA dues, coaching clinics, Motels for teams, User fees (Golf courses), and security for home events
- Maintain a uniform rotation for all athletic, extra-curricular, and co-curricular activities.
- Develop or enhance a system to ensure that all equipment is adequately maintained, stored, and regularly serviced.
- Collaborate with district maintenance staff to maintain professional preparation of facilities and playing areas.
- Maintain strong links with Booster Clubs and Alumni Associations to further enhance and foster good relationships.
- Represent the district at relevant conferences and meetings as appropriate to the job duties of this position.
- Foster and maintain links with local businesses, universities, and national associations to provide access to elite coaching and training opportunities.
- Be visible and approachable at events, initiate conversations, and build relationships with students and parents to be proactive in communication and problem-solving.
- Maintain a calendar of activities that can be posted to the USD 250 website.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Level 3 – Medium Work
- Exerting 20 - 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, and grasping, repetitive motions.
- Extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Must be able to travel and work long hours attending events, some of which may be overnight.
- Must be able to work in a noisy and loud environment.
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
- Possesses knowledge in the field of Curriculum/Instruction and Assessments
- Possesses knowledge of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
- Possesses experience working with Special Education programs
- Possesses strong communication skills; speaking, listening, and writing
- Continually and consistently communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents
