What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Volleyball Coach position at Pittsburg State University Career Site Minimal?
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Volleyball Coach. The primary function of the Assistant Coach is to serve as a member of the volleyball coaching staff providing coaching and training for the volleyball team as well as recruiting new members to the team. The assistant coach will provide support and assistance with all aspects of the intercollegiate volleyball program. All of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the MIAA conference and the University.
Duties and Responsibilities of Position
45% - On-court coaching and training during practices and competition including development of line-ups, game strategies, and individual work-outs and practice needs for various student athletes as well as managing designated skill development area or group of positions.
35% - Recruit both transfer students and new students to the volleyball program through personal visits and other types of communication. Develop recruitment criteria and a process to evaluate identity and monitor all aspects of the recruitment process. Maintain communication with potential recruits and parents and work closely with area high school coaches and community colleges to recruit quality student athletes to PSU. Perform academic and athletic evaluations of potential recruits, make independent decisions regarding academic and athletic abilities and make recommendations to the Head Coach regarding scholarship and admission offers.
10% - Responsible for the maintenance of the playing surfaces of the volleyball court and the supervision of student workers to assist in this process. Responsible for monitoring equipment maintenance, including but not limited to determining and arranging for the purchase of additional equipment needs for the team.
5% - Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed. Encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student-athletes to be successful in the classroom, on the field, and in future endeavors.
5% - Other duties assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required Education and Experience at Hire -
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years experience as a volleyball athlete, or recruiting and/or coaching experience at the college level.
Preferred Education and Experience -
- Master’s Degree
- 4 years experience as a volleyball athlete, or recruiting and/or coaching experience at the college level.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-4:30pm, numerous evenings and weekends
