Pittsburg State University is searching for a Research Compliance Officer in the Division of Economic Development and Community Engagement is to ensure that all research activities conducted at Pittsburg State University adhere to ethical standards, legal regulations, and the institution’s research compliance program. This role serves to protect the rights and welfare of research participants (both human and animal), maintain the integrity and credibility of research, and safeguard the institution from legal and financial risks.
Duties and Responsibilities
25% Regulatory Oversight, Policy Development and Implementation:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations governing research activities, including but not limited to human subjects research, animal research, export controls, and environmental safety.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and update institutional policies and procedures accordingly.
- Develop, implement, and maintain research compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Guide researchers and staff on compliance-related matters and ensure adherence to established protocols.
25% Audit and Monitoring:
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of research activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and institutional policies.
- Identify areas of non-compliance and work with relevant stakeholders to develop corrective action plans.
15% Institutional Review Board (IRB), Animal and Export Control Support:
- Serve as a liaison to the IRB, Animal, and Export control, providing support and guidance on regulatory and compliance issues.
- Assist in the review and approval of research protocols to ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
15% Incident Reporting, Documentation, and Investigation:
- Manage the reporting, investigation, and resolution of research compliance issues, including allegations of research misconduct, conflicts of interest, and non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with legal and other relevant departments to address compliance concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including audit findings, training sessions, and incident reports.
- Prepare and submit compliance reports to institutional leadership
10% Training and Education:
- Design and deliver training programs for researchers, staff, and students on research compliance topics, including responsible conduct of research, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote awareness of compliance issues and foster a culture of ethical research practices.
10% Other Duties:
- Serve on committees for research and advancement.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience at Hire -
- Bachelor’s degree in law, ethics, science, or related area.
- 2 years of experience in research compliance, research administration, or a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience -
- Advanced degree in a related field (e.g., law, ethics, science, or public health) preferred.
- Certification in research compliance (e.g., Certified IRB Professional (CIP), Certified Research Administrator (CRA), or Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)) is desirable.
