Full-time, salaried position ($125,000 )

Reports to : Executive Director

Supervisory duties : 3-4 full-time staff

Founded in 1969, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's mission is to be Pittsburgh's source and ambassador for extraordinary ballet experiences that give life to the classical tradition, nurture new ideas and, above all, inspire. PBT provides high-caliber ballet performances and rich educational opportunities to audiences in the downtown Cultural District and in community-based settings throughout the Pittsburgh region. ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Director of Development will be the lead fundraiser and will oversee all Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre development efforts. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of collaborating with leadership teams, boards, committees, and other key stakeholders to cultivate a culture of philanthropy and implement comprehensive advancement plans that expand a diverse and highly engaged donor base.

The Director of Development will be adept at major gift stewardship and solicitation, managing and executing fundraising and cultivation events, and be a compelling ambassador and spokesperson.

The core responsibilities of this position include :

  • Creating, managing, and actively participating in PBT's fundraising strategy, creating effective strategies that align with organization's vision
  • With a focus on major gifts, building and deepening relationships with current and potential donors and funding partners
  • Managing a portfolio of high-value stakeholders and prospective donors
  • Collaborating with the Board of trustees and committees to facilitate and enact strategic goals
  • Leading and developing the advancement team, setting performance measures, and monitoring results
  • Collaborating with other department directors to achieve strategic goals
  • Overseeing special events for fundraising and cultivation such as the Pointe in Time Gala, Dinner En Pointe, the annual Hartwood Acres Picnic in the Park, and invited rehearsals
  • Coordinate and manage special campaigns
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization, as well as PBT's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION

  • Strong, clear communication and collaboration skills, including an aptitude for writing, public speaking, interpersonal communication and running effective meetings, including presentations to board and stakeholder groups
  • Commitment to professionalism at all times and fundraising best practices
  • Proven track record of development success, with experience in major gifts and capital campaigns; planned giving experience is a plus
  • Experience with obtaining government, corporate, foundation, etc. funding sources
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to connect to a variety of internal and external personalities
  • Success with cultivating and stewarding donor relations
  • Ability to effectively manage team members and organize multiple projects
  • Experience working with a CRM, preferably Tessitura
  • Comfortable in social settings, connecting people, generating positive environments for guests / donors
  • Preferred : performing arts experience, particularly in the region
  • Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of development professionals with varying levels of experience
  • A minimum of five years of successful development experience is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access values.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in business, non-profit management, or related field required
  • Management experience required
  • Physical Requirements : This is a primarily desk position requires some local travel, as well as evening and weekend work. Valid driver's license and / or reliable transportation is required. Accommodations can be made.

    This position is a full-time position located in Pittsburgh, PA. This is not a remote position, though PBT does support hybrid work arrangements. All candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the region.
