Position Summary:
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is seeking a part-time Volunteer Supervisor to support our On-Street Services in their mission to clean, green, beautify, and maintain the Golden Triangle. Working closely with the On-Street Services Management Team, the Volunteer Supervisor will oversee individuals and teams of weekend volunteers, facilitating their efforts to give back to their community as they work on a variety of projects in Downtown. The ideal candidate wants to get their hands dirty while also helping to lead and manage volunteers, ensuring that proper planning and execution occurs for each volunteer engagement.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with On-Street Services supervisor to identify needs and develop weekend volunteer schedules, activities and supplies inventory.
- Lead and supervise volunteers in tasks such as litter collection, graffiti removal, weeding public spaces, and parks, raking leaves, and cleaning and painting public fixtures.
- Occasional coordination with the PDP Events team to mobilize volunteers for large-scale events including parades, celebrations, and festivals.
- Ensure volunteers adhere to established health and safety protocols during all activities.
- Manage the volunteer database including completion necessary paperwork, verifying volunteer hours and supporting our partnership with Pittsburgh Cares and other volunteer partners.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications team to promote volunteer opportunities and awareness
Desired Characteristics & Requirements
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and encourage others, wrangling groups of up to 2- 50 individuals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand the needs and capabilities of volunteers
- Possesses cultural competencies, encompassing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the communities served.
- Flexibility and effectiveness in team environments, with a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances (no-shows, weather or equipment failures).
- Physical capability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods, as well as work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- All staff must be willing to obtain background checks
Hours
Thursday – Sunday: Up to 28 hours per week. Hours vary depending on volunteer schedules
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $20/hour
