What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Nature Camp Counselors (2025) position at Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy?
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is hiring Summer Nature Camp Counselors who will be responsible for helping youth from the greater Pittsburgh area enjoy, explore, and connect to Frick Park and other outdoor spaces in our community.

We provide training necessary to excel at your job for those who have a can-do spirit and positive attitude. Counselors will have the opportunity to teach and supervise children aged pre-K through 8th grade in Summer Nature Camps. Camp activities include singing songs, hiking trails, building campfires, making crafts, among many others. Dates and Availability:
- Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, through Friday, August 8, 2025
- Mondays through Fridays from 8:00AM to 4:00PM
Requirements
- Applicants must have a strong interest in nature and a desire to share it with children
- Applicants must have the strength to lift at least 30 pounds
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- Applicants may be required to work in a variety of weather conditions
- The following must be obtained after accepting position
- PA State Police Criminal History Clearance
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- Pass a fingerprinting background check
- PPC background check
- Mandated Reporter Training
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with a partner to manage groups of 8-10 campers ranging from 4-13 years old
- Supervise teenage volunteers and/or college-aged interns who assist with camps
- Work on a team and communicate with other counselors and supervisors through the camp day, including giving and receiving feedback
- Create a positive and fun experience for campers by engaging campers with enthusiasm through the camp day and supporting their growth and learning
- Lead daily activities, lessons, games, and nature walks - some pre-planned, but with flexibility to create activities within the camp structure
- Organize and prepare camp materials, including set up before camp and putting materials away after camp
- Approach challenges throughout the summer with flexibility and resilience
- Work outdoors connecting others to the outdoors through the entire day and in all weather conditions
Compensation: $15.00/hr
Hiring Timeline and Requirements
Interviews in person or online will be scheduled from March 4th through March 27th.
Preliminary offers will be made at the beginning of April.

- PA State Police Criminal History Clearance
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- Proof of application for FBI fingerprinting background check
- Mandated reporter training
- PPC background check
