Water Operations - Truck Driver

The Truck Driver will operate heavy trucks, including dump trucks, crane trucks, concrete mixers, and/or large box or cargo vans in accordance with established City and departmental safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES● Drive heavy trucks and transport crews, materials, and equipment● Operates equipment at job sites such as compressor, generator, snowplow, pumps etc.● Work as a team member of the vehicle crew as assigned or required● Inspects mechanical condition of vehicles and reports malfunctions, makes minor repairs, checks oil, water, gas, and tires● May schedule periodic maintenance on vehicles, maintains accurate records on equipment; transports crews and/or materials as required● May be required to direct traffic at work sites and operate specialized equipment including construction equipment● Perform other related tasks as assigned or required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES● Considerable knowledge and skill in the operation of heavy trucks and related specialized motorized equipment● Considerable knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations governing vehicle operation, as well as the safety hazards and precautions of the work● Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair● Basic knowledge of city streets and geography● Ability to drive in heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions● Ability to perform minor maintenance, adjustments, and repairs to assigned vehicles and equipment● Ability to follow oral and written instructions● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, and the general public EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSThe following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.● Must present and maintain a current, valid Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the “L” airbrake restriction lifted from the license. GENERAL REQUIREMENTSApplicant must present a current, valid Class A (Class 1) PA Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment. A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.  Applicant must have permanent residency in Allegheny County at the time of appointment and remain a resident in Allegheny County throughout employment with the Pittsburgh Water:  SUPERVISION EXERCISED / RECEIVEDNo direct reports / Will receive supervision directly from the Manager, Field Operations.  PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception.  CONDITIONSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a moderate or quiet noise level in the office work environment. May perform work outdoors under extreme weather. The employee may be exposed to confined, high spaces, like erect scaffolding; loud conditions with vibrations, traffic, mechanical, chemical, fire, and explosive risks; and odors, dusts, fumes, mists, poor ventilation, and gases which may require a respirator. Availability to work all three shifts, as well as weekends, and holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond normal hours and/or recalled during emergency situations or other extensive periods.
