Job Summary: An Outside Sales Representative conducts sales out in the field via face-to-face interactions with both
potential and existing customers. They are responsible for offering the best possible customer experience as well as
providing hands-on explanations of any new or updated products when necessary. Their excellent social skills allow them to build strong relationships, to which they will utilize to increase sales.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Building and Maintaining Relationships
Regularly reach out to customers to maintain strong relationships and offer assistance, even when they’re not placing
orders. Understand customer needs by asking questions and carefully listening to their responses.
Managing Call Logs and Follow-Ups
Keep detailed and up-to-date call logs (daily/weekly/monthly) to track customer interactions, identify patterns, and
ensure follow-ups aren’t missed. Focus on high-potential leads and existing clients where there’s room to grow the
relationship or increase sales.
Handling Inbound Sales and Orders
Reply promptly to customers, distributors, and PNA reps' requests for book pricing, availability, lead time, shipping,
and tracking inquiries. Become familiar with the products, pricing, and order processes to answer questions
accurately.
Dealing with Purchase Orders (PO)
Ensure accuracy when making changes to PO's. Communicate clearly with customers about any modifications or delays to manage expectations effectively.
Customer Issue Resolution
Handle customer issues and approach them with patience and a mindset to solve the problem quickly. Loop in other
departments as necessary. After resolving an issue, follow up to ensure the customer is satisfied.
Time Management and Organization
Establish targets for how many calls or follow-ups you aim to complete each day.
Adaptability and Teamwork
Be willing to adapt to changing customer requests (push/pull orders, cancellations) while keeping a positive
and solution-oriented mindset. Communicate effectively with your team, sales director, and other
departments to ensure you are aligned and working together to meet customer needs.
Sales Growth Focus
When handling existing accounts, identify opportunities for upselling or introducing complementary products.
Proactively reach out to both new leads and dormant accounts to grow the existing book of business.
Qualifications:
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent time management, communication (verbal and written), customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong telephone skills is a must.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Excellent people, problem-solving, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to adapt to unfamiliar processes and situations with minimal review/supervision
