Our client, a distinguished Pre-K through Grade 12 Prep School in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its Business Office team. The Senior Accountant will play a vital role in maintaining the school’s financial integrity by managing various accounting operations, performing reconciliations, and supporting annual financial audits. Key Responsibilities:
- Execute accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Conduct detailed analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, promptly resolving any discrepancies.
- Prepare and oversee bank, investment, and credit card reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Assist in developing financial reports, budget-to-actual statements, forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Collaborate with budget managers and the Parents’ Association Treasurer to monitor spending and budget adherence.
- Support external auditors by preparing necessary schedules and documentation during the annual financial audit.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset schedule, ensuring accurate reporting.
- Cross-train within the Business Office and provide backup support for Student Billing and Accounts Payable/Receivable functions.
- Manage ACH transactions, banking wires, and check processing in collaboration with team members.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal school policies.
- Evaluate and improve accounting and financial reporting procedures, maximizing the use of accounting software and systems.
- Undertake additional projects as assigned by the CFO.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or educational institution.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- High Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and nonprofit accounting software (Blackbaud NXT preferred).
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
