University Controller

Our client, a private University in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Controller to join their team.

Reporting to the Vice President/Chief Financial Officer, the University Controller oversees financial operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accuracy. Key responsibilities include managing accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, student accounts receivable, treasury functions, and business insurance. The Controller also facilitates financial process improvements, banking relationships, credit card management, and compliance with tax and audit regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Oversight: Supervise accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, student accounts receivable, and treasury management.
• Process Optimization: Implement process improvements across financial functions.
• Banking & Treasury Management: Oversee cash flow, credit lines, credit card reconciliation, and daily banking operations.
• Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting, and audit processes.
• Business Insurance & Risk Management: Manage policy renewals and RFP processes for competitive pricing.
• Student Accounts & Revenue Management: Oversee collections, student payment plans, and third-party recruiter financial operations.
• Payroll Administration: Ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance with regulations, and benefits deductions.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s preferred).
• 15 years of experience in higher education or nonprofit financial management.
• Strong knowledge of student financial aid, ERP systems (Ellucian Colleague preferred), payroll audits, and analytics software.
• Supervisory experience in financial operations.
  
  

The compensation for this position ranges from $150,000.00 - $175,000.00. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
