SUMMARY:
PL Custom is a family owned company since 1946. PL Custom builds custom ambulances and rescue vehicles located in Manasquan, NJ. PL Custom is looking for a Production Manager to manage the activities on the production floor as well as following established procedures and approved processes. This candidate will supervise all production operations such as machining, processing, assembly, installation and quality. They will coordinate productions activities to fulfill sales job orders, meet production schedules, and deliver manufactured products in a timely manner. They will manage and mentor the subordinate staff in order to maintain motivation, teamwork, and continuous improvement. They will utilize lean manufacturing concepts to improve operations, increase efficiencies, reduce costs and increase quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing specific policies, operating procedures, and goals pertaining to maintaining or exceeding customer quality requirements.
- Leads the Production team and serves as the management representative for production related matters, supervise production supervisors and leads. Manufacturing liaison to dealers, salespeople and customers.
- Review production schedules to make decisions concerning inventory, staffing, work procedures, and job assignments while communicating with Warehouse and Planning departments.
- Engage and collaborate with Engineering regarding designs and schematics.
- Review, recommend and participates in corrective and/or preventive measures in process or product related problems and the follow up of such measures.
- Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product and continuous improvement.
- Perform regular inspections on workmanship to verify conformance to specifications and/or procedures and built to industry standards and codes. Understand and maintain audit compliance. Understand and enforce quality control systems.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines established by the company. Encourage safe practices and a safety-first mindset among coworkers. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment ensuring that all safety instructions are followed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for providing direction for 10 Production Supervisors/Leads and approximately 75 hourly employees.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions with all levels of the organization as well as salespeople and customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge of manufacturing ERP system, PDM and access to SW designs are helpful.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field with 5 years of production managerial experience or 10 years managerial experience, either in the automotive industry.
- Manufacturing experience, with a strong emphasis on understanding automotive industry practices and manufacturing systems.
- Knowledgeable of production processes in welding, fabrication, cabinet/wood work, electrical, installation methods and paint application.
- Leadership Training, Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Proficient knowledge of word, excel, outlook, work with mathematical data and the ability to apply principles of logic to duties and responsibilities
- Knowledgeable interest in automotive
- CDL helpful
