JOB SUMMARY:
The Railcar Administrator is responsible for overseeing and managing the rail car fleet used to transport raw materials, finished products, and other goods. This position requires effective coordination of railcar usage, maintenance, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards, ensuring a seamless integration with the company’s logistics and manufacturing processes.
Work Schedule: Sunday, Friday, Saturday 6a - 6:30p
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 - 2 years of experience in railcar operations, maintenance, or fleet management, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience working with railcar tracking systems and software.
- Familiarity with railcar types (e.g., tankers, hoppers, flatcars) and their specific uses in a manufacturing context.
- Understanding of rail industry regulations, including Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines, safety standards, and inspection requirements.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, including OSHA guidelines and hazardous materials handling,
- Understanding and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to railcar use, such as environmental regulations or transport safety.
- Experience with scheduling and coordinating railcar inspections, repairs, and certifications.
- Knowledge of railcar parts and mechanical systems, with the ability to identify and resolve issues.
- Clear and effective communication to ensure that railcar availability and operational needs are met.
- Ensure that all railcar documentation, such as inspections, certifications, and maintenance records, is complete and up to date.
- Identify and resolve issues that may arise with the railcar fleet, whether related to maintenance, scheduling, or logistics.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple railcar-related projects simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines, often in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Responsible for safe transload and unloading operations of raw materials at the facility
- Manage all SOP’s, documents and training for the transloading operation including safety and emergency plans.
- Inspect railcar for leaks, damage, car # and any other identified items per SOP
- Secure railcar upon arrival as per all pertinent SOP’s, Track Requirements, etc.
- Coordinate transfer of IPA from Railcar to tanker truck
- Initiate hookup of railcar to transloading manifold
- Initiate hookup of tanker truck to transloading manifold
- Manipulate valves, switches and controls to deliver material from car to tanker.
- Print out appropriate tickets for BOL and finalize paperwork for entry into Oracle, etc.
- Responsible for planning and managing supply levels:
- Key contact for railroad and suppliers
- Arrange arrival of the railcars at the facility
- Manage raw material inventory in coordination with Supply Chain
- Coordinate Railcar supply from supplier
- Communication and resolution of any supply issues
- Responsible for samples and testing coordination with facility:
- Take samples from railcar and coordinate testing with laboratory
- Coordinate sample shipment from rail site to laboratory
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Walking and standing for long periods,
- Climbing stairs or ladders to reach elevated platforms.
- Ability to lift, pull or push up to 50 pounds.
- Working in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to visually assess railcar conditions, parts, and components.
- Required to uphold proper use of PPE within the manufacturing environment.
