CLASSIFIED JOB DESCRIPTION
BILINGUAL PARAEDUCATOR
Bilingual Paraeducators for Limited or Non-English Proficient students are employed as needed and funded within the particular program budgets.
DEFINITION :
Under supervision, to assist teachers in instruction by performing tutoring as well as nonteaching tasks in the conduct of classwork, and to assist teachers and / or the school district in communicating with Non-English or Limited-English proficient parents. Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English and Spanish is required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
A. Same as Paraeducator with the following additional duties required by the special needs of the Non-English or Limited-English proficient student and supervising teachers :
- Assist with classroom learning activities.
- Observes and records work performance and social behavior in other class settings or on playground.
- Receives training in, and under direction, uses various programmed materials specific to needs of NEP or LEP students.
- Conducts concentrated drill activities unique to the given special program.
- Under a teacher's direction, uses contingency management or counseling techniques unique to the individual problems of each student.
- Assists Substitute teachers through knowledge of student performance and special needs.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality regarding students' personal information.
- Translates and transcribe English / Spanish language.
- Provide information to children and / or their parents about the Medi-Cal system and where and how to access applications.
- Copy and distribute Medi-Cal information to children and their families.
- Clerical support for Medi-Cal eligibility outreach and health service referrals.
- Inform children and / or their parents about medical services available through school or in the local community.
- Refer children to medical services covered by Medi-Cal.
- Provide health related information to children and / or their parents.
- Assist with the identification of at risk children and families and refer them to the proper agencies for services
- Clerical support for health services referrals.
- Assist families and students with paperwork necessary to complete Medi-Cal and / or Healthy Families applications.
- Assist with developing, implementing and monitoring health related programs or systems for children and their families.
- Attend MAA Time Survey and ongoing MAA program policy / procedures meetings.

Requirements / Qualifications
Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English and Spanish is required.
Employee must have an AA degree OR 48 college units OR take district testing. Within 6 months of employment, acquire and maintain certificates in First Aid and CPR provided by the district.
