The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in the New Product Development (NPD) system, manufacturing process development support, and quality / product safety system implementation & upkeep. Additional responsibilities include designing and leading the implementation of effective quality plans, process control plans and process improvement projects; and providing training to support building the capabilities of manufacturing team members and process leaders for using statistical process control tools and problem-solving methods for continuous improvement of processes and products.
Essential Accountabilities
- Provide site specific functional leadership with regards to quality system development, product safety, training and documentation to maintain compliance to all pertinent standards.
- Provide support services for NPD including product specification development, prevention planning e.g. PFMEA and DFMEA, lead statistical studies with executive summaries, DOE, Measurement and test methods, GR&R studies, and participation in design reviews to represent the quality department.
- Lead and direct the activities of the Quality technicians and Specialists in the development, implementation and administration of process control plans for manufacturing. These include : Incoming inspection, Inspection and test of products / processes, Calibration, SPC, support measurement hardware and software, work methods and set up procedures, training in work instructions and manuals, standardization of processes and capability studies, prepare reports or executive summaries of SPC.
- Participate in process developments and evaluation of effectiveness of process development planning and process control plans.
- Direct the efforts of the Quality Technician and Specialists While leading CA / PA investigations including preliminary investigations for custom incident reports, recording and tracking systems, utilizing 5 why root cause analysis, communication with the customers on issues and resolution, investigation and determination of root cause analysis, and participation in prevention planning teams.
- Direct the efforts of the Quality Technicians and Specialist to develop effective quality related training courses, work instructions, and procedures.
- Develop and present training for process leaders and team members in the application and use of statistical tools for process measurement, problem solving and process improvements. Provide training in systems thinking, root cause corrective action and prevention of potential non-conformances.
- Develop and implement quality auditing and measurement systems to evaluate product and process quality including product recall, calibration systems, product auditing systems, product measurement systems, gauge design, GR&R studies, product and process validation and verification.
- Develop and implement systems for measuring and monitoring the quality of sourced materials and the supplier's quality performance. This includes leading vendor audits when required.
- Provide leadership with regards to collecting and tracking data that feeds into our departmental metrics. These reports are to be generated and communicated throughout the manufacturing areas on a monthly basis.
- Provide leadership and training for the Quality Technicians and Specialists in their functions of administering quality systems and process control plans.
- Responsible for the proficiency, planning and development of the Quality Technicians and Specialists to develop their individual functional capabilities and provide service orientation to internal customers.
- Perform other duties in a project leadership or facilitation role within the Quality Team or cross functional teams. Provide top level technical expertise in quality engineering for cross functional project work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline including Engineering, Quality, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Technology or Industrial Management. Five years' experience in a quality engineering or a process engineering role or equivalent role in a manufacturing environment that used.
