What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Substitute Teachers position at Plainedge Public Schools?
Resident Substitute Teachers are credentialed teachers who report to their assigned School every day to provide classroom coverage. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, Resident Substitute Teachers must help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Reports to school office at the start of school day to receive assignment and any required materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the building.
- Carries out program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by classroom teacher.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
- Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
- Ensures that students are never left unattended in the classroom.
- May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as recess duty, lunch duty, etc.
- Performs other related duties as directed by principal.
- May be asked to provide one-on-one support for students in the classroom.
