What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Support Aide position at Plan A?
Key Responsibilities:
- PCR and Rapid test swabbing and documenting
- Support Workers PSWs with resident care according to the care plan
- Foster and maintain the resident’s independence and trust
- Respond to resident concerns by answering to call bells and attend to requests that are not related to direct care
- Support with safe lifts and transfers of residents and disinfect equipment after each use
- Porter residents to and from their rooms, recreational activities, restorative care office and dining room as required.
- Perform set-up, serving and tear down services for daily meal services as well as assist with feeding
- Practice safe food handling techniques throughout all aspects of food service
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for residents utilizing infection control principles
- Assisting Personal Support Worker in preparation for bathing (preparing resident for bath, drawing bath water and supplies for the PSW)
- Act as a resident companion and provide comfort and support to residents as needed
- Complete general duties as directed by the care staff including, but not limited to organizing closets, restocking shelves, restocking carts, support residents with high needs in choosing their clothing and dressing.
- Assist with activity programs, housekeeping tasks (i.e. making beds, general cleaning) and laundry of residents as assigned
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for residents utilizing infection control principles
- Communicate effectively with residents, staff and families
- Maintain resident confidentiality
- Work co-operatively with team members
- Uphold and promote Plan A’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in our Code of Conduct.
- Provide assistance in all needed areas as directed Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in related fields: PSW/HCA/DSW certification or relevant professional experience is an asset
- Working towards completing Personal Support Worker program
- Ability to model warm, caring and empathetic communication when connecting with residents, families and peers
- Ability to pickup shifts last minute and be flexible
- Excellent attendance and punctuality
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position
- LTC experience considered an asset
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate is considered an asset
- Provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
- Covid-19 Vaccine Documentation (2 doses)
Salary: $18.50 - $25.50 hourly ($25.50 on last minute shifts)
