We are looking for an As-Built Drafting Technician to support the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System (VAPAHCS) project in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining accurate as-built drawings to document changes resulting from construction projects. You will work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all modifications are properly recorded and compliant with industry standards. Utilizing CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit, you will develop detailed drawings that serve as essential references for facility management, renovations, and future construction. The ideal candidate will have strong drafting skills, attention to detail, and experience in documenting building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural elements.
Responsibilities:
- Interact extensively with VAPAHCS staff on a recurring basis to assess progress and prioritize tasks and updates.
- Prepare and manage the existing inventory of as-built plans, central models, and digital files for all VAPAHCS buildings, using Revit, AutoCAD, and PDF formats.
- Coordinate with VA CFM Resident Engineers (RE) and VAPAHCS Project Managers (PM) to ensure as-built documents are properly saved, archived, and accessible.
- Verify as-built drawings through site visits.
- Develop and manage the AutoCAD and Revit file systems, ensuring a systematic filing system for easy retrieval, reference, and updates.
- Coordinate with vLogic to incorporate redline markups and update AE plans to reflect current built conditions, including site plans, floor plans, MEP systems, data, and more.
- Address missing as-built documents in coordination with vLogic.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in drafting and CAD/BIM file management for commercial, industrial, healthcare buildings, or campus projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Revit drafting skills, with competencies in the following domains (as outlined by Autodesk or equivalent certification programs):
- Modeling (User Certification): Walls, doors, windows, and openings.
- Display (User Certification): Managing views and visualization.
- Documentation (User & Professional Certification): Annotating, detailing, and maintaining consistency in design documentation.
- Collaboration and Coordination (Professional Certification): Working across disciplines and teams.
- Project Standards and Settings (Professional Certification): Establishing templates and project-wide settings.
- Information Analysis (Professional Certification): Evaluating and extracting relevant data.
- Proven proficiency in AutoCAD drafting skills, including:
- Understanding and applying drafting concepts and standards.
- Setting up, managing, and organizing drawings.
- Linking and referencing external files and data.
- Authoring and editing drawing content.
- Applying annotations and detailing.
- Using collaboration tools.
- Configuring and managing design outputs.
- Advanced skills in using PDF editors (submission of work samples is required).
- Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ability to gather and assemble data to complete as-built architectural and engineering documents, including site visits to verify conditions as needed.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to understand and interpret technical discussions effectively.
- Experience in preparing correspondence, written reports, and maintaining official project records.
- Ability to conduct meetings and brief VA and management personnel.
- Submission of CAD and Revit work samples is required for review.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position.
