Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Construction Project Coordinator to support the design and construction of the VA Medical Center project in San Juan, Puerto Rico, spanning six years. As a Construction Project Coordinator, you will oversee the planning, design, and construction phases of the project, ensuring all work aligns with medical facility requirements and regulations. You will conduct site visits, assess facility needs, and collaborate with facility managers and contractors to address maintenance and construction requirements. Your role will involve managing project budgets, monitoring construction progress, coordinating tenant relocation, and ensuring compliance with building codes and safety standards. Your expertise will ensure smooth integration of construction work with facility operations, contributing to the successful and timely completion of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct site safety inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop and enforce safety procedures for high-risk activities (e.g., asbestos, electrical, demolition).
- Monitor and enforce OSHA standards and construction safety protocols.
- Review and approve construction safety plans.
- Inspect and maintain fire safety equipment and conduct fire drills.
- Collaborate with fire extinguisher service companies for annual inspections.
- Maintain accurate safety records and documentation.
- Coordinate safety training and hazard awareness for construction personnel.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report and resolve safety hazards and unsafe work conditions.
- Assist with environmental safety and industrial hygiene tasks.
- Ensure secure access control for critical infrastructure.
- Support fire and life safety compliance during construction.
- Provide safety expertise during high-hazard construction activities.
- Maintain safety program compliance across all construction sites.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a bachelor’s degree in safety/health.
- Must have 10 years of construction safety program management experience.
- Completion of the OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety course is required.
- Must have specialized training in hazard recognition and control for high-risk work operations.
- Training must cover asbestos, electrical systems, cranes, demolition, fall protection, and fire/life safety.
- Must also be trained in ladder safety, rigging, scaffolding, trenching/excavation, and facility safety management.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
