We are seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and construction of the VA Medical Center project in San Juan, Puerto Rico, spanning six years. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee the engineering and construction quality assurance, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards. You will be responsible for conducting technical inspections of mechanical systems, monitoring contractor performance, and reviewing project documents, including drawings and specifications. Your expertise will ensure that all mechanical work is executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project requirements, contributing to the successful completion of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Establish temporary field offices and support scheduling of pre-construction meetings.
- Monitor project finances, including cost estimates, change orders, and budget tracking for mechanical systems.
- Develop and maintain construction schedules, coordinating with contractors to address delays.
- Attend progress meetings, reviewing mechanical milestones, and contractor payment requirements.
- Inspect mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, etc.) for compliance with project specifications.
- Review and interpret project drawings and shop drawings to ensure design compliance.
- Perform quality assurance checks on contractor work, ensuring materials meet specifications.
- Oversee contractor quality control to ensure alignment with design documents.
- Review contractor submittals, resolve conflicts, and ensure design standards are met.
- Monitor construction progress, ensuring mechanical systems are installed on schedule and as specified.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure coordination and resolve design issues.
- Ensure proper execution of mechanical work and integration with other project systems.
- Prepare concise reports on construction progress, highlighting mechanical system issues.
- Evaluate contractor-proposed solutions for issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all mechanical installations comply with U.S. standards and industry regulations.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position.
Qualifications:
- Licensed professional with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in HVAC, from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in design and construction.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the project, with the ability to ensure compliance.
- Proficient in communication and technical writing, with expertise in software applications for project monitoring, updates, and documentation.
- Completed 10-hour OSHA Safety Training.
- Spanish fluency preferred.
