The Role:
The General Manager is directly responsible for ensuring all services under his control are sold and executed with both solid profit and quality, ensuring that the necessary processes and procedures are in place to accurately execute in the areas of sales, operations, administration, customer service and marketing responsibilities. the Branch General Manager continuously work with Assistant General Manager and Directors in developing their supervisory skills through delegation of authority, coaching, and mentoring. In addition, the The General Manager must have the ability to continually prioritize various day to day job duties and have the ability to make timely and accurate decisions.
  • Responsible for assigning work and making employment decisions in areas such as hiring, promotion, training, without regard to sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, and sexual orientation.
  • Manage the branch and assigned Assistant General Manager and Directors’ performance through the Proactive Quality Management (PQM) process; measurability, evaluation, accountability, corrective action-ongoing training, and timely rewards.
  • Provide assigned personnel timely feedback, as it relates to job performance through annual reviews focusing on conduct, performance, and reliability.
  • Develop the business in the Chicago market by being actively involved in the sales efforts both by initiating sales and providing support to the current customer base.
  • Assure that all branch personnel, including contractors, are provided the proper training in order to be successful; training should be continuous. It is very important that all training be documented and kept on file.
  • Track projects and work assignments to assure accurate and timely completion.
  • Monitor daily contractor and labor activity in an effort to maximize personnel and profitability.
  • Facilitate monthly supervisor & sales team meetings to review previous month’s accomplishments, both successes and areas for improvement. Post and share accomplishments with all Branch personnel.
  • Review monthly Branch P&L address any items of concern with Accounting personnel and/or supervisor.
  • Ensure accurate preventive maintenance records are kept for all assigned tractors, trailers, and vans. Work closely with corporate safety department to ensure all United/Mayflower and DOT requirements are met.
  • Provide support for Assistant General Manager and all Directors within the branch with the ability to fill-in as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean facility by working closely with outside vendors and corporate support. Improvements, repairs and any general maintenance of the facility need to be addressed on an as needed basis while keeping profits in mind.

Experience/Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or equivalent relevant work experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 year(s) industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 year(s) leadership experience required.

  • Ability to communicate and interact with people of various levels in an effective and professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills to efficiently perform daily work activities.
  • Must have good problem-solving skills and make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as being a good listener.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong Microsoft Office applications skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
  • Customer service driven with the ability to meet customer needs in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to work under the pressures of time constraints in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and professionally develop subordinates.
Conditions:
  • Full-time position.
  • Generally, Monday through Friday, first shift. Occasional overtime as necessary, including nights and/or weekends.
  • Frequent exposure to sunlight, dust and dirt, grease, exhaust and/or fuel fume odors.
  • Must be able to handle a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
  • The ability to lift to 100 pounds assisted, many warehouse items are cumbersome.
  • Bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Varying inside and outside weather and temperature conditions.
