SUMMARY :
Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization that collects and recycles used textiles to protect the environment and support sustainable development in impoverished communities around the world. We are seeking a full-time Assistant Transportation Manager who will report to the Transportation Manager, in our facility located in Elkridge, MD.
The Assistant Transportation Manager will support the Transportation Manager in overseeing the efficient collection of clothing donations. This role involves dispatching, covering routes, conducting minor vehicle maintenance, and problem-solving while maintaining regular communication with management. The Assistant Transportation Manager will contribute to service improvements and ensure timely resolution of issues, playing a key role in enhancing the overall operations of the transportation team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (Other responsibilities may be assigned)
- Supporting the management of the transportation team including acting as a manager on duty in the Transportation Manager's absence.
- Monitoring vehicle licensure, registration, and DOT documentation.
- Assisting with training new drivers.
- Conducting unscheduled box inspections and monitoring missed stops.
- Maintaining company vehicles.
- Monitoring and maintaining up-to-date information Azuga tracking system on a daily basis.
- Servicing routes as needed.
- Addressing customer service needs that are elevated by drivers.
- Providing support with general bin upkeep and minor maintenance.
- Conducting ride-along with drivers
- Maintaining database Current information regarding our sites.
- Assisting with safety meetings with all drivers on a weekly or monthly basis
- Assist in creating and optimizing transportation routes to ensure timely and cost-efficient deliveries.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience : One (1 ) year of commercial driving experience with Planet aid or two (2 ) years of commercial driving experience outside.
One (1 ) year of transportation logistics / routing experience is preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable according to Planet Aid's guidelines. Must be able to obtain a DOT medical card and meet company insurability standards.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Proficient in computer skills and applications such as Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with database record keeping to record and track information, as well as other online applications such as mapping and routing tools. Must be detailed oriented, self-driven, results-oriented, and motivated to work with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize workflow and effectively delegate tasks. Must be flexible in adapting to changing requirements and priorities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Office / business / school settings with some exposure to the elements depending on workload. Planet Aid will provide PPE equipment such as protective eyewear, earplugs and gloves and any other clothing needed to perform job. Travel required to Planet Aid's operations, meetings and training, as necessary (25%-40%).
