About the Role
The Lead Trainer works, as delegated by management, to ensure the successful completion of training activities for vivarium staff (including research associates, veterinary technicians, and pathology associates) in compliance with GLP standards. Works with specialists to plan, schedule, and coordinate training. May provide support for study supervisor(s) and study director(s) by performing and assisting with sample and data collection on research studies.
What You’ll Do Here
• Conduct training activities for the Scientific Services, Veterinary Services, and Anatomic Pathology groups to assure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and USDA regulations.
• Provide hands-on training of staff
• Perform uniform training and assessment across all staff in training
• Possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills; must be a role model for accurate documentation
• Effectively utilizes their position in the department to foster positive work ethics, teamwork and quality, re-constructible data collection in new and current staff
• Perform and train others in proper documentation of training procedures and data acquisition
• Review and revise lesson plans to ensure quality and efficiency
• Work with all groups to improve processes
• Carry out training duties as assigned, to meet training objectives set by department management
• Communicate progress towards training deadlines to training specialist and department management
• Handle and restrain laboratory animals
• Perform timely review and assembly of training documentation
• Perform QC review of data in a timely manner
• Monitor and report changes in animal behavior or health and problems with animal room
• Monitor and maintain animals and facilities in accordance to applicable laws and regulations
• Maintain general organization and cleanliness of work area, including; cleaning and disinfecting procedure rooms and preparation areas
• Work with different departments to help ensure consistency of training practices and organization
• Support and participate in safety study procedures if necessitated by workload
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• High school diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS in a scientific discipline preferred
• Knowledge of training programs and experience conducting hands-on training
• Experience leading and performing in-life research studies in various species to include rodents, Non-Human Primates, and Swine.
• LAT certification preferred
• Intermediate computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
• English proficiency both written and verbal; general reading, writing and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate math skills
• Self-motivated, able to work independently, and works cross functionally on process improvements
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Multi-tasking skills and handles multiple and changing priorities along with fluctuations in the work load
• Readily adapts to new projects
• Positive attitude toward work and co-workers
• Comfortable communicating with all levels of management and employees
• Identify and resolve problems as they are encountered
