Paralegal - General & Professional Liability In this role the paralegal will work with multiple attorneys providing a full range of support including, but not limited to, all aspects of the discovery process. The successful candidate is a very organized, detail-oriented team player, possessing at least 3 years of recent experience as a paralegal at an insurance defense firm who demonstrates the ability to work autonomously without micromanagement.
Responsibilities:
This role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Prepare court-ready state and federal pleadings, motions and responses to motions for e-filing with state and federal courts in Connecticut.
- Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a busy legal environment.
- Manage and maintain a high volume of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, such as interrogatories, request for production, request for disclosure, request for admission, deposition notices, subpoenas, etc., and following-up with clients and third parties for discovery-related items.
- Organize large volumes of case-related documents; ability to locate and reference specific documents quickly (e.g., trial exhibits, deposition transcripts, key discovery responses, case correspondence and communications).
- Support assigned attorney’s defense litigation practice (i.e., phone conferences, meetings, case deadlines, hearing and trial dates, mediations and depositions, as well as scheduling orders and moving docket forward).
- Document, organize and assist with preparation for trials and arbitrations hearings.
- Save, file and organize pleadings, motions and related e-filed or e-mailed documented dates on a daily basis.
- Maintain daily calendar and have the ability to forecast and prioritize relevant deadlines.
- Enter billing time daily.
- File maintenance (both paper and electronic).
- Assist with scheduling, including calendar maintenance; depositions; and client/expert meetings.
- Answer phones and communicate with clients, court personnel, and vendors daily.
- Preparation/revision of correspondence, pleadings and documents.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of recent paralegal experience in an insurance defense law firm, required.
- Paralegal certification required, 4-year college degree a plus.
- Proven knowledge of federal and state court filing requirements, including e-filing.
- Ability to forecast and calendar court filings and docket deadlines.
- Knowledge of document management, electronic calendaring and .PDF software required.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Highly organized and efficient with a proven ability to multi-task and take direction, independently track and achieve often changing tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a cooperative office environment and communicate with attorneys and support staff.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent proofreading skills.
Salary : $65,000 - $70,000
