Planet Technology has partnered with a Cincinnati area company to locate a Mainframe Development Manager to lead a development team, drive process improvements, and ensure smooth project execution.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a hands-on leadership position and has deep expertise in mainframe technologies, particularly within the insurance space.
The role is a full time, 100% remote role.
What You’ll Do
Lead & Support Your Team
- Manage a team of mainframe developers, handling hiring, performance management, and professional development.
- Set clear goals, provide technical guidance, and ensure the team stays productive and focused.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and accountability through open communication and regular team meetings.
- Review code, make key release decisions, and ensure high development standards.
Ensure Process & Compliance Standards
- Oversee adherence to governance standards, best practices, and development methodologies.
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify potential risks and escalate critical issues when needed.
Drive Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep our systems efficient and modern.
- Participate in company-wide forums and initiatives focused on improving development processes.
Support Technical Execution & Project Delivery
- Jump in when needed to support project phases—whether it's gathering requirements, coding, testing, or implementation.
- Provide hands-on technical expertise and troubleshooting to ensure smooth production support.
- Be on call as a manager every other month to handle critical production issues.
What You Bring
- Education & Experience: A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Mainframe Expertise: Deep knowledge of IBM Mainframe technologies, including COBOL, PL/I, VSAM, DB2, CICS, File Aid suite, and XPEDITER.
- Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of DXC’s Vantage One (or CSC Vantage) and/or wmA systems, along with experience in other annuity products.
- Leadership Experience: At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Industry Background: 5 years of experience working with life insurance andor annuity systems.
- Technical Experience: 10 years of mainframe application development.

Salary : $130,000 - $150,000
