Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, perform high-complexity, moderate complexity and waived laboratory testing on patient specimens. Abide by state and federal regulations on safety and compliance for all stages of specimen processing. Demonstrate and continually promote the highest level of quality and ethical standards in the laboratory by performing tests with good laboratory technique, providing quality documentation and results in a timely fashion, exhibiting productivity on all laboratory responsibilities and have the ability to identify and troubleshoot technical and/or instrumental issues as needed. Must be able to work independently without supervision. Patient-facing responsibilities include phlebotomy and instructions patients on self-collection of specimens for testing for sexually transmitted infections.

Essential Responsibilities
- High Complexity Laboratory - Panther
- Assess patient specimen acceptability for testing
- Perform FDA approved testing on patient specimens
- Perform and document preventative maintenance
- Review quality control and patient results independently and according to standard operating procedures
- Maintain and store laboratory inventory
- Utilize resources in a responsible, efficient, and cost-effective manner
- Minimize waste
- Organize and file laboratory relevant documents
- Health center point of care laboratory
- Phlebotomy for Quest orders
- Instruct patients to self-collect swabs and urine for Panther
- Input orders in EMR
- At Home STI Testing
- Process laboratory orders for mailing collection kits to patients
- Maintain accurate records for specimens returned
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean environment in the lab
- Adherent to quality control policies, protocols and procedures
- Troubleshoot and report problems as needed
- Perform or delegate performance of proficiency testing
- Review and is familiar with all procedures in the laboratory manual
- Maintain laboratory logs
- Maintain medical laboratory equipment by assuring all required equipment function checks, maintenance, cleaning and decontamination procedures and all other necessary quality assurance checks are performed and documented as needed
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork; understand the interaction between this position and others with whom the position works directly and indirectly
- 0 – 2 years’ experience
- BA/BS required in medical technology or physical science
- MT ASCP preferred but not required
- Phlebotomy experience a plus
- Experience in Microbiology preferred but not required
- Must have experience with aseptic technique
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel preferred), and Laboratory information software
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated skills prioritizing and organizing workload
- Superb attention to detail; ability to follow processes and procedures from beginning to end within established timeline
- Ability to handle discreet, confidential information
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to provide quality services to meet the individual needs of customers
- Must be able to work with bleach
