JOB SUMMARY

The East Tennessee Grassroots Organizer will carry out grassroots advocacy work and implement strategic plans to build and engage Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi (PPTNM) and Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood’s (TAPP) bases of supporters in east Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Implements a strategic organizing plan to build support for Planned Parenthood in east Tennessee through local and state legislative advocacy, civic training & education, voter registration & turnout and volunteer-led action councils.

• Engages, fosters relationships, and mobilizes volunteers to carry out Planned Parenthood’s grassroots organizing plan via one-on-ones, group meetings, phone/text, and email. Such as,

  • Each week, reaching out to a list of 100 new supporters to build connections and strengthen engagement.

  • Scheduling and conducting 5 one-on-one meetings weekly to cultivate meaningful relationships.

  • Plan and execute 2 gatherings or events each month to mobilize and energize the supporter base.

• Recruits and trains volunteers and interns to lead phone banks, canvasses and other volunteer activities.

• Develops the skills of volunteer leaders to build community action councils and constituency programs.

• Sets measurable power-building goals, manages metric-driven outreach and development of supporters, volunteers, volunteer leaders, and voters as they move up the ladder of engagement.

• Builds relationships and collaborates with community groups and organizations to build a sustainable progressive movement in east Tennessee with our partner organizations.

• Informs PPTNM staff, via written and verbal reports, of activities, developments, and progress on the strategic plan.

• Maintains, updates, tracks, and communicates with volunteers through EveryAction/VAN database; generates regular reports.

• Ensures compliance with 501 (c)(3) and 501 (c)(4) guidelines for approved activities.

• Travel is required; access to a personal vehicle is strongly recommended.

• Protects the confidentiality of PPTNM clients, donors, board, and all areas of operation.

• Performs other duties as needed or directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE: Political, campaign and/or community organizing experience. At least 3 years of professional experience is preferred. Experience (volunteer or paid) recruiting, training, and mobilizing a team of 10 or more volunteers/members preferred.
