Summary
Under the supervision of the Promotora Manager, the Promotore/a is responsible for conducting bilingual community outreach and education throughout the PPGC service area, with a focus on the Latinx community.
Essential Functions
- Conduct health education presentations and other needed outreach to reach Spanish-speaking and underserved communities throughout the PPGC service area.
- Participates in mandatory trainings and meetings to build and maintain current knowledge of sexual and reproductive healthcare topics.
- Identify ways to communicate and engage with Latinx populations online and offline, in person and virtually
- Translate program content in Spanish/English
- Promote the health services and education programs of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Inc.
- Market and set up education program opportunities with direction from their supervisor.
- Prepare outreach education reports and track all data needed for program documentation.
- Be knowledgeable about PPGC services and community resources.
- Work closely with Promotora Manager to maintain/create community partnerships and collaborations.
- Represent PPGC at health fairs, advisory councils, coalition meetings, and other community meetings as appropriate.
- Support advocacy efforts of the Education department and the affiliate.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Basic understanding of reproductive health issues
- Communication skills to be able to communicate sexual health concepts
- Must be a motivated team player with a passion for supporting the health of communities
- Ability to communicate non-judgmentally, sensitively and accurately about all matters related to client needs. Positively interact and communicate with persons of all ages and those who come from high risk and lower Income environments including persons of diverse religious, cultural, racial, sexual orientation and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to design and Implement education workshops.
- Ability to effectively present Information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work independently and a willingness to work collaboratively to achieve goals as part of a geographically dispersed team.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as scheduled.
- Ability to travel in state and out of state, as needed.
- Valid Texas Driver's License, insurance, and/or ability to travel as required to perform duties.
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Previous experience working with the Latinx community strongly preferred.
Maintain Community Health Worker (CHW) certification or gain certification within one year of employment.
Language Skills
Ability to read, write and comprehend English and Spanish.
Ability to effectively present information one on one, in small groups, larger audiences, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures to keep data on presentation audience
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving many variables in standardized situations
Computer Skills
Ability to create basic information materials using Microsoft Office, Adobe Software.
Comfortable with virtual platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Community Health Worker (CHW) certification preferred; can be substituted for substantial experience.
