Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) has been proudly serving our community since 1933 and is one of the original Planned Parenthood affiliates in the nation.
We provide reproductive health care, health education and advocacy from our five health centers in Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park, and Pasadena, in addition to our telehealth clinic. We strive to ensure the sexual and reproductive health services we provide align with the needs of the communities we serve. Our service area extends from Glendora to Glendale and from the San Gabriel mountains to the San Bernardino freeway, home to 24 communities and a diverse population of 1.4 million people.
Today, PPPSGV sees over 60,000 patient visits per year and delivers over 15,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education in our schools and colleges.
We offer safe and legal abortions. We are committed to providing accurate, non-judgmental care and resources by helping our patients overcome financial, transportation, and other barriers to care. In addition, we work with abortion funds and practical support network to support our patients. Our abortion care has increased every year since 2018 with an average of 3,500 abortions per year. We saw close to 4,000 abortion patients in 2022 alone, approximately 59 were out-of-state patients.
The Director of Gift Planning leads and implements PPPSGV’s major gifts and planned giving program in support of our ongoing operations and current capital campaign. The incumbent will be primarily a frontline fundraiser, who will manage a portfolio of at least 75 donors and prospects with the capacity to make gifts above $10,000 in addition to planned gifts and/or campaign pledges. The Director will serve as an expert on planned giving for the Development Department and will help other gift officers and fundraising volunteers incorporate planned giving asks into their overall solicitation strategies. The Director will launch our Legacy Circle for donors who have named PPPSGV in their estate plans and will work to create a sense of community around this new group of supporters. This is a revenue-generating position that is responsible for meeting annual portfolio goals.
As the Director of Gift Planning, you will save lives while you:
- MAJOR GIFTS and PLANNED GIVING: In partnership with the VP of Development, the incumbent leads and manages the overarching major gifts and planned giving strategies for PPPSGV and PP Advocates.
- Develop, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual donors and prospects with the capacity to make significant planned gifts and annual contributions above $10,000
- Partner with the VP of Development, the CEO, and the Campaign Chair to make campaign solicitations and combined asks
- Using boilerplate language and through collaboration with leadership, program, and fundraising staff, creates customized gift proposals that meet the strategic needs of PPPSGV and the interests of the donor
- Collaborate with gift officers to identify planned giving prospects and acts as a central resource to donors, gift officers, and fundraising volunteers with respect to complex gifting techniques, wealth management, and tax issues
- Develop and execute an engagement/stewardship program and approach for major gifts and planned giving that includes in-person and phone contact, as well as electronic and print communication to maintain and deepen donor relationships
- Achieve annual revenue and activity goals as determined in partnership with the VP of Development and helps to mentor other gift officers on moves management techniques
- Serve on the Board Development Committee and identifies and recruits potential board prospects for both PPPSGV and PP Advocates
- Stay abreast of national and local issues impacting sexual and reproductive health care and the range of services and programs that PPPSGV provides in order to convey this content to donors and prospects. Develops strong relationships with PPPSGV staff to match their expertise and personalities to specific donors, and coordinates the scheduling of such meetings, preparing all parties as appropriate.
- Enlists Development Coordinators in prospect research and database pulls to support overall strategy.
Additionally, the Director of Gift Planning will:- Adhere to a proactive and performance-driven fundraising role that is driven by relationship building, metrics, and other performance indicators
- Deliver presentations to the public and competently field questions about PPPSGV and PP Advocates
- Represent PPPSGV and PP Advocates at community groups, professional organizations, benefits, and other local gatherings
- Track portfolio activity in the database and use the database to memorialize donor and prospect contacts, relationships, and affiliations for donors in portfolio
ADMINISTRATIVE AND LEADERSHIP:- Contributes to portfolio activity reports and departmental reports, communicating results to the VP of Development, the CEO, the Board of Directors, and volunteer committees
- Contributes meaningfully and proactively to Development team meetings, affiliate-wide manager retreats, affiliate-wide task forces, and other meetings as directed
- Participates actively in PPFA’s Development Officers Council and collaborates as needed with peers at other Planned Parenthood affiliates and the national office to share resources and best practices
- Comply with PPPSGVs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations

We are looking for the following:
- Education:
- High School level education and above are welcomed to apply
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Required Experience:
- 8 – 10 years of fundraising experience, with specialization in planned giving and major gifts fundraising and demonstrated track record of closing five-figure gifts and above
- Knowledge of trusts, estates, and DAFs as well as financial planning and wealth management
- Managing a portfolio and pipeline of donors and prospects and strong familiarity with moves management methodologies.
- Developing customized gift proposals and solicitation strategies
- Proficiency in using Customer Relationship Management software (Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, etc) and MS Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Inspire and mobilize fundraising volunteers and train committees in philanthropic strategies
- Working independently within a collaborative team environment
- Commitment to the professionalism of fundraising and adherence to AFP Fundraiser Code of Ethics
- Desired Experience:
- CFRE and/or other fundraising certification.
- JD, MBA or graduate degree in nonprofit management, business, or writing.
- Business proficiency speaking and writing in a second language.
- Existing philanthropic giving and/or business development relationships with individuals and companies located in the San Gabriel Valley and the foothills of Los Angeles, CA. Experience diversifying a donor/client base and creating inclusive collateral materials and events.

$135,000 - $165,000 a year
